Bone density (DEXA)

A bone density test can provide a snapshot of your bone health. It can identify Osteoporosis and determine your risk for broken bones as well as monitor osteoporosis treatment. The test uses X-rays to measure how many grams of calcium and other bone minerals are packed into a segment of bone.

There are no food or drinking restrictions.

No studies with oral or IV contrast can be performed the same day.

Avoid taking calcium supplements for at least 24 hours before your test.

Our trained staff will guide you through every step of the process.

Exams performed:

  • Lower spine bones (Lumbar)

  • Femur

  • Bones in forearm

A certified radiologist will review and analyze the images. He will then submit a detailed report that will be sent to your physician. Once your physician has reviewed the report, they will follow up with you to discuss the findings and next steps.
